I shop your sales and find that all of these products can be purchased at very reasonable prices with the exception of Chelsea's line (remains outside of my price range). Very grateful for the wonderful sales that you offer, making oil painting affordable to this retiree.
I love working with a glass palette. Mine is a clear bevelled glass window pane which I place a gray tinted canvas panel under. I clean the glass with a straight edge razor blade and use rubbing alcohol to remove any excess oil. This allows my palette to dry in seconds and be ready for more paint. (Also, rubbing alcohol will remove paint from clothing prior to the paint drying and the occasional smudge on the skin.)
I'd love to see a video on your rating of oil paint manufacturers: highest quality to student/learning grade.
Thanks for the video!

My recommendation would be a palette knife. Great for mixing paint and helps preserve the life of your brushes.
Totally agree with the glass palette. Love using one. And a good brush soap. Great recommendations. I like Jack's Linseed Studio Soap myself. Very versatile and smells nice. And the metal brush washer. Those are all important tools in my oil painting supply collection.

Glass palettes are the only way to go in my opinion, mine I got out of an old TV cabinet it is gray and tempered and I have used it for years. Some really good tips here.

Chelsea Brush Cleaner now comes in Natural Orange scent. I like the lavender oil soap. I really do like your video's.

Grey paper palette is my go to for mixing oil paint. I use the Gesso coated canvas, but I never paint on white. I start with an imprimatura (toned ground) which is a transparent oil stain of colour used to cover the stark white of the canvas and establish a mid tone (earth colour).

This is a VERY great video for supplies not talked about often in the way you did. I’m not new to oil paint but I’m not an expert at all 😅 but this is a video I wish I saw when I first started! Thank you guys!

I just clean my brushes in solvent, dry them and put them away. Never had a problem and these brushes are about 4 years-old and still almost like new.

I use acrylic gesso. After 3 days drying, I use thin application of liquin original, and let it dry for week or two, Then I paint with oil paint. No dull sinking of oil paint. For cleaning brushes, I simply wipe brush on cloth. What little paint remains, I clean it in container having baby oil. It works quite well.

A charming discourse on on oil printing and some sales talk. I am curious as to whats on your left out of camera, as you keep looking there quite often, even in other videos.

Sennelier do a great non toxic oil medium and cleaner line, cheaper then the chelsea line by a long shot. All safe to inhale, great for artists like me who dont have any ventilation in my studio

Rags. Learned this one early. Nothing is quite like a rag for cleaning paint, be it oil or water soluable (obviously don't mix the two). You can usually get them pretty cheap, too.

I agree with all you've said. These items are just ridiculously expensive though. Who can afford all that ya know.

I have heard that you should paint water soluble oils over an acrylic ground. What is you opinion on that?does the water solubility change how the oils interact with the canvas?

Are the Chelsea Classical Studio Oil Painting Mediums usable with water mixable oils?

I have a question concerning the fat and lean mediums. So, the first layer is done with just the lean medium. Next layer has the lean medium with some fat medium. Layer after that one has lean medium with some more fat medium added. And so on till only using the fat medium. Is this how both mediums are used?

I know this video is old, but am I the only one who double gloves? I use gloves in a bottle up to the forearm, and then use rubber gloves on my hands. Also, has anyone tried Oil of Rosemary as a solvent replacement? I've heard it's even stronger than Lavender Spike Oil.
