I found out about Candlemas/La Chandeleur/La Candelaria a few years ago and have celebrated ever since. I try to have crepes and/or tamales, light candles, and play Christmas music. I put away some decorations, including the creche the day after. I read the biblical story of The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, where Simeon and Anna recognized Him as Messiah (Luke 2:22-38) Here in the States we also celebrate Groundhog Day on this day (The Germans brought this tradition over for the Candlemas holiday).

Euh... Pensez-vous que l'on sème de la farine ? Les semailles étaient une quantité de grain réservée pour assurer l'avenir. Les grains ou la farine à consommer devaient tenir jusqu'aux prochaines récoltes. Il n'est pas possible de dire que l'on avait de la farine en trop en février, même si on trouve souvent cette affirmation sur internet. Mais lisez plutôt les livres de Dubi sur l'économie paysanne du moyen-âge, et vous verrez qu'entre semis d'hiver et semis de printemps, rendements assez faibles des cultures, personne à part les monastères, n'avait de grain ou de farine en trop en février. (Les études ont été faites à partir des cartulaires des monastères.)
