What I love most about Madoka Magica is that, for as dark and depressing as it gets, the overall message is not a cynical one. Madoka Magica is, above all else, a story about the importance of having hope even in the darkest of times. Madoka never gives up hope that magical girls can be saved even after witnessing the true extent of the horrors they face, and that's in part what allows her to change their fates in the end. It's a really powerful message and I think it tends to get lost in discussion of how the show is so dark and angsty. It is far, far more than that.

I absolutely fell in love with the way they portray witches familiars and their labyrinths, the art style and designs are top notch I don't think there will ever be anything like it in our lifetimes. Not to mention the soundtracks and the fight choreography

I want to add Madoka Magica isn't just about subverting expectations and creating a new genre, this thought process lead to many upon many copycat shows the following years that dried to up Madoka Magica by making it's psychological thriller to psychological horror and other shows that took it further to turn their story into a gore horror and completely missed what the original series is all about. Madoka Magica is not a scary anime nor horror, it delves into deep psychological issues for teenage girls but it doesn't use it's characters as plot devices to suffer but respects them. Madoka, Homura, Sayaka, Kyoko and Mami all have their respective fanbase that adores them for who they truly are. If someone want's to watch Madoka Magica do not watch it for horror as there is no horror in the anime, I am onyl stating this because I have seen some misconception when people recommend the show. Watch Madoka Magica if you want to experience a really great story in an ever growing franchise. Even later works as Magia Record expanded on the lore and more movies are incoming in the near future.

Not to mention one of the best anime OSTs out there and the final message the anime sends to the viewers, I legitimately cried watching this anime even though it's only 12 episodes. It averts the entire genre and then comes back to it. It's an artistic masterpiece.

Its also a good message for women, that we dont have to stay in that toxic environment, that calls us witches or tries to belittle a womens strength. A womens strength isn't physical, and I think Madoka is that character that explains why being vuneralble, emotional and empathetic isnt a weakness and why its so human. As madoka shows this by being there for the girls who are in their most scary moment. And why being sympathetic helps build friendships and alliances. This is my all time faveourite show. ❤😊
