Oregon takes on Michigan State for the first time since 2015 this Friday, and they are massive 24-point favorites. Are the Ducks worthy of such a big number in their first ~true~ Big 10 Conference game?

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin talks about areas for growth on both sides of the ball. Has the offense left something to be desired with a lack of explosive run plays? 10:50

Spencer concludes today's show talking about under-the-radar standouts from Saturday's win against UCLA. The Ducks' defense was glad to have LB Jeffrey Bassa back and playing like himself. 20:00

Friday games are weird, but I’m here for it. Another weekend where we can watch whatever game we want for the most part.

I think Ohio St will beat us at home. Because our offense is inconsistent and does not have a great running game this year. We are not as good as we were last year on offense. The O-line is not as effective. It is a challenge to replace the Rimington Winner, JPJ who is excelling in the NFL. Also, I have not always been pleased with the play calls, they seem at times disjointed? Against UCLA we kept running inside the tackles which was UCLA's strength on their D-line. We need to use more counters/ screens and off tackle runs

Speaking of looking back, that Boise State win is looking better and better

Oregon is gonna get conservative in a lot of games when they are up 21 in the second half. We don’t have a bye week until the season is over basically. We are preparing for a grueling marathon of football coming up. Don’t complain about us not running up the score, do you wanna stay healthy and be playing our best ball in January or not?

Dans identity is finally starting to seep into this program. The defense is gonna be the strength of this program eventually. Duck fans better take off the green and yellow glasses and realize it’s not 2010 anymore. There is nothing wrong with winning games with defense. Oregon having a defense trending towards elite pleases me. The offense is fine.

Jordan James needs 20+ carries to be really effective. He gets stronger as the game goes on, wearing on defenses, and then breaking big plays.

The Ducks have seemingly patched up the pass protection but they’re still not getting sufficient push in the run game in my opinion. Is that because Jordan James is a step down from Bucky or because you can’t replace a JPJ? Probably both. But if the Ducks had confidence in their run game DG never throws that pick 6, they ram it in and the game is now Colorado 2023 level over.

Good call out on Kasper, also love that the coaching staff is utilizing mismatches like that.

The non-stat stuffer player of the year right now for me is Harmon. That dude soaks up two offensive lineman just about every down and is disruptive as hell. I hope he has a pro career ahead of him.

I don’t agree with this, but a funny dialogue that came up in our fantasy league was giving wide-outs the stat yards on pass interference 😂. Maybe it’s tracked in some way, but it would be hilarious to see penalty yards drawn from individual players.

Can't look past the Spartans. Take care of business Friday

Johnathan Smith will have the Spartans prepared to play but he's not got the horses yet to compete with Oregon if O plays anywhere near their capabilities. Home game = home win this week. I might be leary of the spread, tho.

Next bye is before the UW rival game pretty sure

Less than a month until I fly to Michigan… whew gonna be a fun one. Praying for decent weather. No where near as confident for the Ohio state game then I was before the season. Haven’t seen a complete game really yet and I worry we don’t have to focus to go against an Ohio state just yet at this point in the season. Need to see a COMPLETE game against MSU this weekend.

One improvement I'd like to see from the defense is generating more turnovers.

We've had some missed opportunities for takeaways (guys dropping/missing INTs). But also, with the pressure we're getting in the backfield, I would like to see more forced fumbles. Definitely some random element to that

but creating some of those TOs could have blown open the games our offense might have been struggling in. And will absolutely be necessary against higher level competition!

Ducks get a quick two score lead and take MSU out of their game plan...

I expect the Ducks to be at least close to the same score that Ohio state won by against Michigan State last week. If not, I'll be a little worried heading into the Ohio State game.

Im sure theres a lot we havent seen from this team, still, im not sure we can beat ohio state in a couple weeks. That may not end up mattering as we may get another shot at them at the end of the year in the championship game, id rather lose now and play my best football at the end of the year and win, than win now and lose at the end of the year.

They were big fat favorites against Idaho and Boise As well. I have zero confidence in this team at this point. They need to slap MS around like little kids if they are going to have any chance at all against Ohio state.

Hey Spencer, do you remember one of your viewers mentioned about him trying to go to the Ohio State game and the GodSmack concert in Portland at 7:30. You told him to sell his GodSmack tickets. Well your statement is true because the time got put out early yesterday for 4:30. I was chuckling when the time came out.
