Switched to PoP Os! and Now Linux Mint the moment Microsoft put a Final End Of Support date on Windows 10. Never going back to using Windows as a full-time operating system.

Nothing which is really related to OS develops. Just the decorations. But since the first days of its spring up into life, it's mainly the operating system.

In 2016 I started an experience with my sister on her PC (i5 2400, 8gb ram, rx 460, 120gb ssd and a 1tb hdd, dell optiplex something) to transition to linux. The PC is up and running every day since, it has 2x1080p monitors and a 4k tv attached to watch movies, it's a HO workstation for her now for years, it worked as a covid learning PC for her kids, even era/hw appropriate steam gaming is working nicely.
Asked her a few weeks ago if she wants a new PC and she asked why, it's still works like charm. Started on ubuntu 16.04, now on 22.04, jumping from LTS to LTS, around next summer it will be updated to 24.04.
PS: my sister is not a computer nerd in any ways.

I used to be all for windows 11 over windows 10, I honestly dont care anymore between the 2, both have better parts and worse parts (I still think it looks better though) I just hate windows in general now. Its way too buggy.

Why?
I work in video editing, when I overload the hardware windows will bug out and have monitor glitches... when I use mac, with EXPERIMENTAL THIRD PARTY MONITOR EXTENTION SOFTWARE, I get less monitor glitching. Wha?!

I use an MS SurfaceBook 2, which has been running Windows 10 since 2018. In 2022, Windows started nagging me about upgrading to Windows 11. After a year of relentless nagging, I capitulated and clicked the upgrade button. Windows 11 works OK, but I'm not too fond of Microsoft's constant intrusion they built into Win11. I don't use CoPilot, I don't like Edge, and I think Replay is unnecessary. So I disable all these so-called helpful functions, and in the next update, they are back. Who is Microsoft to tell me what I want to use on my computer? There is constant advertising to subscribe to Microsoft's Office 365. I own a copy of Office that lives on my laptop, and I don't need or want a monthly subscription to Office. Bottomline: I should have stayed on Win10. It ran better without the unnecessary overhead that is in Win11. Apple's M4Max is looking good right now.

That's the vision of corporates, they just want mindless consumers.

As a mid level user, tech savvyish but not to a great level, it's just damn ugly. Seems no upgrade to Windows 10 at all, and the start menu looks like a notepad text file and is not at all convenient or customisable

Short answer: because it sucks and has literally *no advantages* for the user compared to Windows 10, on the contrary, it takes away even more sovereignty from the user, and is phoning home even more.
That's it.
PS: Once Win10 is not supported anymore, my main OS will be Linux, and the few apps I need to use which still need Windows will be run in a virtual machine with Win10, without network connection.

None of the computers that I have meet Microsoft's ridiculous Windows 11 hardware requirements. Only one of the computers that I use runs Windows 10. The rest run Linux Mint or MacOS. When the Windows 10 expiration date arrives, the remaining Win10 computer will converted to Linux. I absolutely refuse to turn hardware that runs perfectly well into e-waste.

It is a waste to require new hardware given China is limiting the raw materials now to make semi-conductors. Reduce Reuse and Recycle and Extend. Fortunatly there is linux.
