In this video, I’ll share a powerful exercise inspired by the legendary Al Di Meola that’s designed to improve your rhythm, alternate picking, and timing. We’ll work on a triplet pattern that lets you play with both slow and fast bursts, helping you build speed and precision without losing control. This is a fantastic way to train your hands and brain to handle faster tempos smoothly and accurately. If you’re ready to push your skills to the next level, this is the perfect practice tool for you!

My first band was called “Al” after him. We were amazed at how fast he was

For everyone wanting additional guidance on the best practice routine, I can only highly recommend checking out Claus' podcast about this, too (e. g. Episodes #5 and #6). It clarified a lot for me about last questions I had about how to optimize my practice routine. In depth about every aspect. After that, it's all on yourself though, I guess... : )

This exercise gets my elbow, I have to stop
and come back to it later. 😄
Luckily, I already have pretty good speed,
but don't actually have an exercise for
alt, picking with accuracy at speed and warp speed.
I think this will be a really excellent exercise for me
as well as for players.

Claus... is this different than a speed burst

Funny enough I’ve always done that as a part of my speed training 🤔
