When she says starts singing “For the…” always gave me goosebumps. Best female voice in history of music. Her voice was 100% melodic.

The best use of the words "for the" I've ever heard.

Nicky faintly smiling when Rachel joins in but quickly shows discomfort in knowing her sister would “outdo” her. All leading to that embrace and smile that was partly for show. Hiding resentment but also loving her sister. Amazing acting.

Who else thought Nicki (Michele Lamar Richards) played her role incredibly well, amazing how distraught she was when Fletcher was nearly killed... Outstanding acting 💜

Wasn't she EVERYTHING! Love her so much! So grateful that she lived.

For the = perfection, with the break in the voice, followed by "bible" in a very controlled light yet with an amazing dexterity and fast vibrato. These simple 3 words were enough to demonstrate WHY she was a master at singing and a virtuoso.

This scene and acting is brilliant. From singing due to guilt or a desire for clarity, to resentment, to mixed feelings and pain and frustration. So subtle and done so well

Her sister's voice was spot on, too, though and deserved to be heard by more than three people at a deserted lake. Such a heartbreaking scene that tells you everything you need to know about a secretly gifted performer and her lifelong label as "the sister of..."

The sisters acting is superb, when whitney comes in there's a huge smile, I'm sure her character as a child loved having someone to sing with. Then whitney, being the incredible talent shows us why in a way that is genuine, not showboating. And the look on the sisters face tells you all you need to know about why she did what she did

Whitney pretty much had that same type of hidden jealous reaction from her industry mates as here with her "sister" in the movie.... So many were envious of that Extra special gift that she had over their singing talents.

It's been about 14 years since I first saw this movie yet that run at 0:34 still gets me every damn time

I think this part has some of the best acting in the film. You can really see the pure jealousy shine through for the briefest second when her sister joins in and pretty much steals the song. It also picks up on why she won't just leave instead of having to look at her all the time like Frank suggested earlier.

She thought she was alone on the porch and in comes Rachel. That may have been her whole childhood and it's just ingrained in her now. No matter what she does or where she goes; Rachel will always be better so she may as well just stay where she's at and make money off of her.
