NASA's DART mission changed the game in planetary defense by successfully altering the orbit of an asteroid. But it also sent debris into space, some of which could reach Earth and Mars within a decade! In this episode, we explore the exciting possibility of human-made meteor showers and how ESA’s Hera mission will dive deeper into DART’s impact site. Learn what this means for the future of space exploration and planetary defense, and get ready for cosmic discoveries!

Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
00:50 The Aftermath of the DART Mission
03:36 The Journey of the Ejecta
05:04 Hera Mission’s Follow-Up and Meteor Showers on Mars

Knowledge well earned and needed, especially when we start mining asteroids.

SURPRISING CONSEQUENCES???!!!
Who the heck was surprised ???!

Asteroid threats are more real than worrying about other countries and their status/standing/relationship with each other(s). Politics can wait.

I wonder how planetary gravies will influence their trajectories over time.

Debris scatter was one of the first points considered at the begining of cosmic diversion discussions. The 'star wars' idea of deflecting comets etc asked such questions and what might be used including nuclear ballist missiles. Not so sure that the debris was such a surprise really.

To add to the video, a mining company that collects these rocks for the metals is saying that the findings are false and will hire their own team to disprove their findings. Nothing will stop these corporations from getting their money. Environment be dammed.

So during their experiment they accidentally created a meteor shower that could hit us in the future. Good job!

I always wanted to try smelting by passing a mold around a near collision orbit with the sun

They didn't predict the sizes, or volume, of the pieces they created. How TF is anyone supposed to believe that THIS TIME the predictions are correct!? 🤦‍♀️

Everyone was so busy wondering if they could that nobody stopped to ask if they should!

Let us suppose that an Asteroid will hit Earth. Is it possible for NASA to create 4 Spaceship that would be attach to an Asteroid Apophis for example and the purpose is that to land it safely on Earth without creating damages in mankind. Like a Helicopter landing safely. What we are only avoiding is the "strong impact".

Will the atmosphere of Mars be dense enough to burn up the asteroid particles into a meteor shower?

LARGE LASERS using a pulse A :would solidify the surface B: would give blow-by-blow thrusting away from where ever the laser is (moon) C: using several LASERS it would work better. D :I REALLY WANT A FRICKNG LASER ON THE FRICKING MOON 😂😂😂
