The visor has two meaning in the game.

First : its actually somekind of glasses who upgrade their vision.

Second : its philo, the visor hide their sight from the crime and horror they are commeting which they get aware at the end.

Novel reader here. The visor serves 2 function. 1st is for combat because it has a head up display like the holograms you see in iron man's suit. 2nd is philosophical, how they are so blinded for the YoRha cause which is a (SPOILER) Perpetuated Lie.

It's ironic because the visors help them see better and identify things in combat better but at the same time they are blindly serving a hallow cause.

Lore wise, I believe the visors allow them to see with the “hud” we see in game, but it makes the world around them a sort of bitmapping overlay. This is on purpose because the yorha units will feel emotion seeing the real world and it’s beauty. This is against protocol. Also keeps them from connecting with each other.

So 2 reasons behind the blindfold:
1.) Androids have emotions. The machine intelligence, aka Red Girl, made a virus that triggers by emotional instability. Eyes convey a lot of emotions, if no androids can see each emotions through the eyes, the less likely the lateen Red Eye virus in the YoRHa network is to go off. The blindfolds are actually Nanotech and have hundreds of mini cameras on the outside so the Androids can still see and still have the blindfold look like cloth

2.) The visors are a call back to NieR 2010.

There is 2 reasons for the blindfold

1. In the games it acts like some kind of lense. The health bar, mini map. Etc. Can all be seen by 2B and 9S through the blindfold. They are sort of combat enhancers. So yes they can see through em

2. Metaphorically speaking. The blindfold represents being blind to the truth.

I highly recommend giving this game a shot and unlocking all endings bcs it's a masterpiece

The visors basically show in-game hud(health, minimap, levels, objectives, names, etc) if I remember correctly. So if she takes them off she just sees the world normally without any of that shit blocking the view

Yes they can see using the tape on their eyes, it only amplifies the senses, information and etc when using it

Pretty sure it was explained in the anime that the blindfold is a visor that works sorta like a scouter in dbz.

I imagine it's probably like sunglasses. You can see, but you see different when you take them off.

The face reveal in the anime happened so fast--as I recall, you don't get to see 2B's full face until like...end of route B or C? MAYBE D?

Either way the symbolism of her doing that at such a point in the series means a LOT. I wonder if this particular point was from the stageplay.

Even though it’s a Cute scene I don’t really like how the anime has them takeoff the blindfold right now instead of being at the end with the fight with Eve because it holds more symbolic meaning
