The old days with x86 single board computer. I had the JK Micro Flashlite 186 and 386Ex. If memory serves me right it ran ROM-DOS. I had a 8MB on the 186 and 32MB on the 386Ex using a disk-on-chip module. Anyway, I found one nifty setup by forcing the boards to do a direct serial connection by editing the autoexec.bat file to issue a CTTY COM1 then used what ever host I was using such as Debian with screen or minicom. I think these days with windows you could use PuTTY or TeraTerm.

If I am not using forth then I would just have to write a program in my language of choice that interacts with the serial port and be driven by commands from the terminal program. Basically emulating what your forth IAarduino program does ?

I am trying to start learning forth on arm's mcu, mainly stm32's.
