Oh you poor people, this was groundbreaking comedy at the time. Imagine tuning into a “comedy” show in 1988 and getting this dry delivery of meta anti-comedy a solid decade and a half before those were even concepts. Jack Handey was unfortunately well ahead of his time, and people STILL don’t appreciate what he was doing. The lack of an obvious joke is the entire point of these bits. Some of them still make me laugh harder than anything else from SNL.
