“Psalom” for string quartet is a piece structurally rooted in the Eastern Orthodox Church Slavonic text of Psalm 112 and written for musicologist and publisher Alfred Schlee’s birthday. It was originally composed without any particular instrumentation in 1985 on Pärt’s 50th birthday. The piece was reused in 1991 to fulfill a commission for string quartet to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Alfred Schlee of Universal Edition.
