I stumbled on this video while looking for a recording of 2600 hertz. I was telling my son about it. Now I'm planning to listen to this whole episode. I first learned about phreaking about 20 years ago when I read a book called Approaching Zero: The Extraordinary Underworld of Hackers, Phreakers, Virus Writers and Keyboard Criminals by Paul Mungo and Brian Clough.

Brings back memories hook switch dialing was a skill that took practice I them went on to use spandsp library and made some use out of it implementing fax gateway. We had people in a government department that would listen to people putting in pin codes and could type them in had to then link pin codes to extensions. Great episode

have you ever think of making an ep about how mid 90s gaming and the internet change the face of computing, think about it for most things a 486 would all they really need to do office work and everyday stuff or if you want good video playback and music playing a Pentium would do the trick. really the if not for the internet and the gaming world pushing more powerful computers would be more of a workplace thing if anything.
