Knoephla soup is a German Russian soup popular in the Dakotas and we can see why! It's cheap and easy to make, satisfying, and incredibly comforting.

Yes, that’s how you say it! My grandma made this a lot when she was still alive, but it was not served as a soup. It was almost more like a pasta with a creamy sauce…. Onions, celery, potatoes. (No carrots) It’s a very familiar and comforting food.

My foster mom made this.... my foster dad is German and he loves it as his mom made it for him i think. And my foster mom is the best at making this. 💓

I loved that you called them little "boops"; that was adorable.
I might have to try this; looks yummy.

There’s this one place in Dickinson, ND. i forget the exact name of it but he makes incredible fried chicken, knoephla, borscht, etc but growing up I have such fond memories driving to that city from Minnesota, where me and my immediate family lived for many years. We would go see my whole family during Christmas time or any holiday really and I’m talking both my mom and dad’s side, every cousin, every aunt and uncle and ofc the grandparents. As a result from eating it so often at those fun family gatherings it became one of my all time favorite dishes. I’m quite young still but now most of my family in ND has either moved away or passed away so there hasn’t been much reason for me to go out there in recent years. Besides, me and my immediate family moved further away a couple years back and I’ve found a decent job out here with no real plans to leave the state. Not sure why this short randomly popped up either this is the first time I have ever heard anyone outside my family ever mention this soup. Not quite sure what compelled me to spill this either I just really really love knoephla soup it is more than just a dish for me it’s a part of my childhood, if I could go back to those days I 100% would, I haven’t even thought of any of those gatherings on their own in years it’s been so long.

Kneophla soup with homemade bread to sop up the creamy broth is my comfort food. I like the dumpling dough on the wetter side, with some baking powder added in and cut very small. They end up very bready and fluffy that way. Germans from Germany do not know this soup; it’s the Germans who went to Russia who invented it. It’s similar to but distinct from other south German dumpling soups.

That looks amazing 🥰 My mom makes this pretty much the same way, although I’ve never heard it called this before. The main difference is that she actually puts chunks of chicken in it as well, and when we make dumplings, we just put a bit of dough on a spoon and drop it into boiling water, and when it floats to the top it is ready 🥰 thanks for the great video!

I'm from Minnesota and have never had this actually, or even heard of it, but it might be because I'm in the twin cities. Reminds me of our chicken wild rice soup thats really common around here too. I'll probably try this (with a lot more seasoning though haha)

Ah, Knöpfle! It's from South Germany I think. Btw it's pronounce with a "k" sound.

I have lived in Minnesota for 44 years, and I've never had this or heard of this. It looks good, though.
