Here in the UK, if two inches of snow are forecast, airports shut, with flights cancelled or diverted.
It confirms my suspicions that we, as a nation, are a bunch of pussies!

Suddenly realising there was no terminal, refuelling facilities nor even a tower to clear him for his return takeoff; Captain Anderson began to wonder if this wasn’t the career crowning achievement the company had promised, but was in fact, his Retirement Plan.

Fantastic achievement by all concerned! It should be noted that the Boeing 787 was fitted with Rolls Royce Trent 1000 turbo fans, so well done to RR with a first for B787 in Antarctica!!

Very smooth landing considering the snowy runway conditions. Well done!

Fun fact: Norway are going to demolish its old research station and build a new one . The price are a cool 3 billion Norwegian kroner, that’s about 275 100 000 US dollars.

And VFR. That would have been quite a divert to an alternate field if the weather forecast was incorrect.

Considering a C-17 has landed down there this doesn't seem to be the record they are claiming.

Consider the MTOW of a 787-9 is 561, 500 lbs. while the MTOW of a C-17 is larger at 585, 000 lbs.

Not sure what they're saying is the actual history they're making...

How long did it need to go for before the brakes officially kicked in as it landed on ice. It would be a lot longer than usual.

They must have chain fitted In landing gear tyres.

Anyone else worried we will wreck the Arctic and Antartica through too many people landing, cruising, etc. Galapogos now has some summertime sewerage issues. Antarctic tourist cruise ships can discharge sewerage etc immediately they enter international waters. We must not wreck the last untouched beautiful places on Earth.

Interesting! How long did it take the plane to come to a full complete stop? I couldn't help wondering if it was going to slide for a long time before it came to a stop.

Technically challenging. The pristine environment is getting disturbed by anthropogenic activities, soon millions of tourists will come in.

Remind me of the scene from the Clint Eastwood thriller Firefox where he steals a Soviet stealth fighter and lands it for refueling in the Arctic.

id rather land in Antartica on that than 1ft of snow in the uk, its not cold enough for the snow to freeze, in Antarctica its solid its that cold, harder than a runway in the uk
