You need to try the MRS Nomad S1D and the Alpacka Valkyrie, those are two packrafts designed more like Kayaks, the former for touring speed and the latter for technical whitewater that maneuvers like a hardshell kayak

As a long term, packrafter (since their early days here in the UK) and this was a great review for anyone after the packraft basics, For grade 4 to 5 white water in a packraft this is possible but you need to have a packraft that can "edge" similar to the Alpacka Valkyrie V3, there are some great WW films of this one in action made in 2024 since the V£ has come out.

Great information on pack rafts. I wish this was around when I started 4 years ago.

210 is more than enough. I have 15 expeditions in my alpacaraft. And i regulary ww paddle. No problem. Easy to repair also.

A packraft will not blow up if you lung pump it. Nothing to worry about in my and some Australian packraft guides opinion. I still let som air out sometimes tho, for some reason

Hey Ken, I'd really like to see a review on the Old Town Loon 126 angler. I have been looking for a sit-in fishing kayak for a while, and it seems to fit the description. Would be curious of your opinion as it sits in the middle ground.

I have said for a while now I would love to have one, unfortunately, Thiers is nowhere near to me to run one. Perhaps I will emigrate to the USA. Great information once again Ken

Packrafting 101:
1) get a packraft with a t-zip
2) don’t bring too much stuff remember you have all your normal backpacking gear PLUS raft, paddles, pfd, helmet, throwbag
3) don’t tie anything to the deck except maybe a small deck bag for a few items you need during the day or it will be too tippy

I'd also suggest testing an packraft that's actually SPECIFICALLY FOR whitewater like the alpacka gnarwhal....few of us here in alberta have those too..

You call the packrafts less durable, which is true, but another way to look at it is that they are easily repairable in the field and at home.

Rather suffer a leak in the floor than the tubes, simply because it turns into a floating tarp as its a single air chamber and you are a long way from shore. less likely in deep water though.
