This is a really great idea. I love how simple it is but I also think it would be cool to use textured brushes like the Blackburn brush. I feel like the texture would look nice if someone is in to it. That’s just a suggestion of mine😄.

What’s great about doing this is it’s a great way to build up confidence for future drawing! When I draw a person and I want to get the likeness right (includes anime / cartoon characters too!) I’ll trace over the first attempt and then use my trace as a less complicated reference.

It’s so easy to get bogged down in the details. The best thing to do is start simple and then slowly build up.

Mine isn’t in black and white but I’ve done this for my profile pic for my art accounts! I also stylized it a bit more (making my eyes and lips bigger and my nose smaller, which makes it look more like my regular art) but same general process and it was super fun because it was easy to get the basics over with so I could spend more time on a fun background and coloring!
