When your academic mission statement is too broad it’s time to do this

When you sit down to clarify your academic mission statement, the first inclination is usually to make it too broad. You have a lot of interests, and you’ve done a lot of different types of work–and you want to include EVERYTHING! (Of course, you do, you overachiever.)
