A new antitrust era is underway in the US. Keen to curb corporate power, Joe Biden has appointed officials set on challenging companies that have grown to dominate swathes of the American economy. As the FT’s Stefania Palma reports, if US officials make good on their pledge to crack down on buyout groups, we could soon see the biggest antitrust showdown in the history of private equity.

*Let's be honest* : it's legally IMPOSSIBLE for the US government to go after PE firms for antitrust (in the vast majority of cases). PE firms investing in competing companies is, to the legal system, just like if we as individuals invest in As long as the firms aren't obviously (that's the key word) manipulating the companies to avoid competition, antitrust laws just don't apply. The implications of overruling those laws would screw over millions of Americans and ruin investing (hedging, ETFs, index funds, etc) forever.

Calling Biden's administration for progressives is idiotic. Burnie Sanders is a progressive, A.O.C is a progressive. Biden is a classical liberal. Progressive liberalism is about expanding the classical liberalistic values to include healthcare among other things. An example of a progressive party is The Labour party in the UK and Biden is to the right of them.
