Drives me nuts when people dont get everything out of the container. My grandmas used ti make this without the tapioca, she used coolwhip. They called it strawberry whip.

I'm from the 70s and I've never ever heard of this before...fortunately. 😆

Omg, so add sugar, add heavy cream, then add more sugar that's in the condensed and evaporated milk.
I was a kid in the 70s, and the only thing that I remember that was anything like this was jelly and evaporated milk. It was delicious.
Nobody had enough money in the 70s to chuck heavy cream, condensed milk into the jelly, as well as evap milk.

I was born in the early 60s and though we would cut Jello up and mix it with whipped cream in the 70s & 80s, tapioca was never included, and neither was condensed milk.
I will admit though, different regions of the country (I am Canadian 🇨🇦 but am sure it is the same in the US) tend to have popular recipes that other regions are possibly not even aware of.
I know the internet has opened me up to seeing dishes from all over my great country!

Mom used to make Jello with half the required water, then when set, cut out cute shapes with cookie cutters. It was called Jello Jigglers, I think.

I used strawberry or cherry jello, and when set, I put in a bowl of cool whip. Mix well with a mixer, pour into a gramcracker crust. Return to fridge, after set, cover in cool whip. Strawberry or cherry cream pie.

If they’re pretending to be American, they shouldn’t use use milliliters to describe the recipe.

The thing I remember that looked like that was not runny. The jello cubes was added to a whipped cream and jello mix that was let set in the fridge again and it didn't have tapioca beads either. I would never had eaten it as a kid if it had tapioca in it, yuck hate tapioca

I’m glad this was forgotten. Side note, I never saw this in the 80’s and 90’s

I think it was a hit back in the 50s 60s. My mom’s famous Silver Spoon cooking Bible ( il Cucchiaio d’Argento) or the Betty Crocker cookbook shows pictures of similar dessert all from gelatine moulds. Like bundt cake pans or copper moulds. And more gelatine like Knox, was used to set it so you could slice it or spoon it like Jello. And the whipped cream was whipped before mixing it. So it mixed solid not as a liquid dessert. This could be made in advance. I often saw it in cafeterias in the 80s as a solid jello style dessert.

These crazy jello recipes are why I still battle C-PTSD from my childhood. 🤢🤢🤮

Lived in the 70's. Never heard of this with tapiocia. Jello and whipped cream yes. I dont think its from the states, we had jello that already had the sugar in the packet, no strawberry essence. And of course the measurements in grams and ml is a huge giveaway. Sounds good though!

This goes in the fridge to set, you don't eat it like cereal. They still sell it, and it's delicious. But he has the recipe wrong.
Still, this version may be delicious also. But you don't need extra sugar, there's plenty in it already. And I've never heard of it with tapioca. This is someone's aunt's weird version of the popular desert.

I'm from the 70s this was made with cool whip. And you didn't have to use jelly and no tapioca. It was just fresh strawberries with the cool whip, jello and fruit. That's it.

Filipino here. This recipe never lost its popularity in my country….EVER. Except we have so many variety. My favorite is pandan gelatin, green tapioca & ripe mangoes. Yes, everything is suspended in half-heavy cream and half-condensed milk.

There's a good reason why this one was forgotten 😅

We ate this alot back then, but that doesn't look like our recipe. Put back in the fridge before serving. We used whipped cream and Jello. It got firmer.
