Best review this far, thanks. Seems objective, you can see the function of this phone despite the little lacking software. It's a great phone.

A good review which gives me alot to think about for my next phone. Right now it's between this and the htc desire hd for me. Though I do miss the other guy who used to do the reviews even if I didn't always agree with his opinions

@casse82, I do not think Symbian is more difficult to code a more competitive UI for; Nokia clearly stated the Symbian^3's UI was designed as a transition that wouldn't alienate current fans while ensuring full backward compatibility with the legacy elements of the ecosystem. The OS clearly has functionalities that IOS and Android lack. A leading edge UI will be observed with both Meego and Symbian 4. Nokia shouldn't lose its massive install base given a more gradual transition via S^3.

I agree with other commenters. It is not the looking good that counts but the creative functionality.

dont worry some of the complaints its just the start guys or you can say a dry run.. all can be fixed in online firmware in a few weeks... but as i can see now... im already excited of having one.

"On top of that, codec support on the N8 is truly fantastic"

Well, if it can play everything (or near) that I throw at it and it allows me to hook it up to HD displays, I think I've made my mind.

@pointplace Yup, I agree. For sure, having some eye candy is good. But for the price Symbian devices order, it's simply hard to resist that you can get such amount of features in such a low price. Nokia C6 is a good example. It is by far the most inexpensive QWERTY-fied smartphone in the market with the best hardware spec. Pure functionality with zero eye candy. Things are pretty straight forward, you just get function function and function. That's most important aspect of an OS.Eye candy=option

@pointplace but most people and reviews say the symbian os 3 is a let down...and theyre not just talkin about its looks

I want good audio quality, good touch UI, radio, a really good camera, GPS and reasonable price. For me, the N8 is the only option.

just because it doesn't "look" good doesn't mean it isn't. i personally think it looks really nice. only the browser needs some tuning up and it should've come with some game demos.

symbian is versatile, just like the phone and i'm pretty things will get ported on the N8. so you'll have more OS's to play with.

nice review.
i don't care about the UI much. as long as it's original and usable, it's ok with me..
-android, ios, or bada just look the same to me..similar curved rectangular icons, similar left-right swyping gesture..similar dock at the bottom.

i prefer symbian more.

I guess now that all the OS' have mail, active Facebook, twitter, free navigation etc..now I think we can start focussing on the hardware capabilities - HDMI out, flash support, FM transmitter, UPnP, 16GB+32 external - looks like a winner. Nokia marketing needs to move now! need the sexy!
