Monsieur Periné play their song "La Muerte" live in concert at SF Jazz in San Francisco, California on December 29, 2023. La Muerte appeared on the band's debut studio album, Hecho A Mano (2012). Monsieur Perine is a Latin Grammy Award winning Colombian band from Bogota who blend French gypsy jazz and Latin American pop. The band consists of Catalina García (lead vocals), Santiago Prieto (charango, guitar & vocals), Jairo Alfonso Barrera (saxophone & clarinet), Abstin Caviedes (trumpet & trombone), Eva Peroni (bass), Roxana "Roxy" Valdes Taffur (percussion), and Darwin Páez (drums). Due to visa issues, Santiago Prieto was unable to appear at these shows, and was replaced by Venezuelan singer-songwriter Jose Luis “Cheo” Pardo from the band Los Amigos Invisibles.

“One of the most exciting emerging artists in Latin music” (LA Weekly), the 2023 Latin Grammy winner for Best Alternative Album (Bolero Apocalíptico) brings their singular hybrid that merges the simmering French jazz manouche style of Django Reinhardt with dance-inspiring Latin American rhythms to ring in the New Year.

Formed over a decade ago in Bogotá, Colombia by singer Catalina García and guitarists Santiago Prieto (who's being replaced on these concerts by guitarist Jose Luis Pardo) and Jairo Alfonso, the band has cultivated a fervent following by blending the spirit of 1930s music with the joyous and sophisticated sounds of contemporary Latin American pop — a worldly, boundary-blurring approach places them in the same echelon as contemporaries Natalia Lafourcade, Troker, Carla Morrison, and Bomba Estereo.

García’s effervescent vocals match perfectly with a uniquely colorful visual style masterminded by Colombian artist José Arboleda in their surreal album art and concert clothing, and the band has released three albums including their self-released 2012 debut Hecho a Mano, the Latin Grammy-winning 2015 follow-up Caja De Musica, and their newest Sony Music session, the Grammy-nominated Encanto Tropical. Monsieur Periné returns to help us usher in 2024 with the hope and joy we need now more than ever.
