This is inaccurate in as much as the story is true but not about the SR-71. All that R&D and production was done by Lockheed as part of Project Oxcart for the CIA which produced the A-12 Archangel. The SR-71 is simply heavier two seater US Air Force version of the A-12. The reason people don’t know this is due to its connection to the CIA it wasn’t declassified until long after the SR-71.
