The restoration in Italy continues with demolishing a wall to open up the kitchen into the open plan dining area. I install a wooden beam by myself and make quite a mess with the brick cutter and sledge hammer. Want to know how to fit a beam properl - learn from my mistakes.

Thank you for watching, sharing and subscribing. See you in the comments.

Hello everyone.

Apologies for the false start video yesterday which was intended to sit as a channel intro video for new viewers...but thank you for all the funny comments.

Grab a glass of wine for the second part and enjoy the battle....

Experts out there, please be kind commenting on my technique! The great news is that this is all in place and rock solid today. Result! 😂🙌

Cheers all. Richard.

I’m not only amazed by your physical ability doing that on your own but the mental strength in not giving up .. I would have cried into a bottle of Prosecco. Well done 👏 😊

I’m in total awe of Martjin and love the cinematography of his vlogs but you are doing great too and I’m so impressed with your solo beam wrangling skills

You’re doing a great job but it looks like you could use an electric chisel hammer to make your life easier chopping the wall. I think a fan facing out the window would have got rid of that dust. Keep up the good work.

Well Richard your the only one I watch that makes me cry then laugh. The fact your doing this on your own is amazing, but we've been there, done it, & still doing it at 74 years of age. Keep going, take care, and enjoy your wine, you so deserve it. Hugs ❤️

Martijn gets help. He's got volunteers from time to time camping next to his hut and working with him during the day. He keeps the hard physical jobs for these occasions. Well done Richard, I felt very tiered just watching you struggle with this beam. Well done!

Ha, well done Richard. Yes Martijn has become the yardstick for ridiculously impossible jobs! Just a thought, once you get more pally with you neighbour with the excavator, maybe you can call on him for the occasional times when an extra pair of hands would make a big difference. Cheers from Oz🍷

I’m over here in the armchair builders section leaning in to try to help. 😂. Well done! You’ve earned your wine today!

I just wanted to go into the opposite room to hold the beam steady while you wedged it in. Such a difficult task when you only have one pair of hands. But you did it. You deserve a good dinner and a glass of wine!

One of the few youtube channels that I watch at Normal speed, and that I look forward to seeing every week. "Oh my God, it's so close." - what I often say to myself in those all-too-rare moments of ecstasy. I'm feeling for you as you do this work on your own. Triumph of humanity in adversity.

Well happy I found your channel, as a similarly aged Brit recently buying property one region over from you, you’re an inspiration. Totally get why you’re doing this, and I’m so impressed with your concern for your neighbours. Italys a country that pays respect with love, I’ve found

Richard I feel for you so much putting up that lintel. I know it happened ages ago but I feeling so sorry for you. But I admire your perseverance and not giving in. You will do it I know

Enjoying the Vid. however, I hate telling people what to do but, 2 things to "consider" would be a small jack-hammer & ear-plug to protect your hearing. I do realize "this" was made 4-5 months ago but for future consideration. Cheers. and Good Luck.

Loving this channel, many many years ago I bought a run down 3 story townhouse in the UK and while still working, I lived in an armchair which was my only piece of furniture and I single handedly sorted it while still working long 12 hour shifts 30 miles away. It was wintertime to start so I had to make the house as cozy as I could, then it was sorting out the front and back gardens, rebuilding and extending the patio which had collapsed, burning off all the rubbish that had been dumped plus the brambles that had taken over everything. It was a very satisfying feeling once it was all done, sitting outside in the evenings watching the sun go down with a glass of red and sparking up the barby, such a magical time.
