Thanks mate, I've managed to fix mine! For anyone wondering, the metal piece needs to sit on top of the plastic clips inside the main handle section, while the plastic pivot piece needs to sit behind the plastic clips in the blue handle section to get it to close fully with a satisfying click. It's not an easy thing to do as you need to hold the pivot piece so it doesn't move while you fiddle the handle into place.

Thanks for the video but I think the black piece should be the other way around.

I was having trouble figuring out how to put one of these back together, but your video made it clear, and once I understood it, mine went back quickly and easily. Thank you!

Two years on, you're still champion. Very nice and crisp information. Fixed my broken wand, since 2 months.

EXACTLY the information I was looking for. Details irrelevant, but I picked this gizmo up at Dollar Store and took it apart to (successfully!) use the wand for something else. Was curious to see if I could put grabber back together, but didn't see the orientation of the mechanism when I first pried it apart. Such satisfaction in small achievements. Thank you!

My gripper/litter picker broke and I refused to throw it out as it was "easily fixed". Well I couldn't fix it and double refused to throw it out! Thanks for the video, would have never guessed it was done like this!

Thank you! I just broke mine and can't stand to be without it. My first one was mostly metal but someone else wanted it more than me. This flimsy plastic one was all could find in my small town. But I'm going to fix it. And, yes, I've got to make a part for it bc gluing is not an option. If it breaks again it's in the trash like all my other Chinese made crap.

Thanks man! For some reason I couldn't figure this one out myself lol, same break in mine.. looks like they went to a hell of an effort to make sure they break a specific way lol.

I found a good fix was to drill a tiny hole in the middle-top of the wider bit, for a tiny screw and plate to replace the breakable plastic end section.

I cut the plate from 1mm scrap steel I had on my desk, to a 5.0 x 0.6 cm strip, the middle got a hole and became the bottom of the plate, sandwiched between the two plastic tabs I left on, as I planned to do a couple of tabs off the side of the next version of my plate/strip to hook around them, if the first one was gonna easily lever out, but seems it's already way stronger than the original..
At the tip, the strips fold over into each other, and, when too long, I re-bend them further in, for the length offset.. (too long and the squeeze button has a visible gap, and the grip doesn't open fully)
The hole in the plate was made smaller than the screw thread, so it'd be tight, because the screwhead couldn't fit as far down as the hole, if the plates are bent to fit between the plastic tabs (unless you have abnormally long tiny-headed screws), so I did some little folds outwards then back up, half way up the plate-sides, for the screw to nest on.

I started these litter cleanups, or my hobby as of 2023 of may. I went through at least 4 litter pickers, my previous one was definitely broken, the wire broke apart, but for my city ones, I will try to learn how to fix it! Hope this video will help

I have this grabber and one day I found it in bits, think I rolled over the handle without realising, I found the blue grab handle and the metal wire holder and I didn't know there was another piece, the black thing that broke on yours!!! I spent a good two hours trying to work out the mechanics of the handle with a missing vital component, gave up when the best I got was a tiny bit of grab movement.
I then thought ahhh it must have had a spring somewhere and it probably flew off somewhere when it opened. I went on here typed in poundland grabber repair and I was blown away your video was there!! I mean what's the chances?? Anyway used your advice after looking for the part and finding it under the edge of a pile of dvd cases and its now working perfectly again, thanks mate.

You sir are a beautiful man. My grabber broke and I know it's cheap but it was fixable. I was looking for grabber mechanisms images, grabber patents. When they say you can find ANYTHING on'tinernet. You really can.
