Jacotepec is another neighboring town, very good cabritas meal, and in the town square is a big smooth stone fabled to be a meteor, the whole area is nice, and a good place to visit!

Next time, I recommend you, visit "parque metropolitano" in Guadalajara (it's a beautiful huge park for families, cycling, parties, carnes asadas, to do exercise...)

Here Be Barr,

A great list of things to see and do in GDL! We live in San Antonio Tlayacapan on Lake Chapala but haven't yet explored GDL despite it only being less than an hour away. That is going to change during Holy Week. We are staying at a boutique hotel in the historic centro of GDL and are very much looking forward to seeing all of the sites.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions of things to do. Being old folk, well at least much older than you, we will likely stick to exploring museums and churches, and of course lots of good food.
