Your interaction with the beautiful young man is so reminiscent of me with my Korean son during the days I lived in Seoul. It was very joyful. I had all the answers then, and NIW He does! He is now in Anyang and very successful.

사흘 굶는 게 예사였다. 이를 박박 갈면서 살았다. 자기가 자기 뜻대로 사는 게 가장 소중하다. 시대를 돌파하는 의지력이 셌다. 그게 박서보를 지탱했다. 인격이 이루어져야 예술이 이루어진다. 86년부터 연필 작업을 그만 두지만, 이미 82년부터 남모르게 한지 작업을 해왔다. 한지는 한지가 가진 특성, 물성을 살려내는 게 의미가 있다. 아궁이에서 묻어나오는 거무스름함. 치유하는 게 예술의 역할이다. 자연의 색을 치유의 도구로 끌어들이자. 하늘색과 바다색을 교묘하게 배합한 데다가 흰색을 많이 섞었다. 사람의 번뇌를 흡인해 줘야 예술이다. 오묘한 색들의 조합~. 색의 마술사~. 슬럼프 없이 성장하는 작가는 없다. 반드시 잘라 줄 것은 과감하게 잘라 줘야 한다. 예술도 자신이 드러내고자 하는 것, 변화하고자 하는 걸 위해 나머지를 희생해야 한다. 관찰력, 관심~. 찰라마다 최선을 다하는 게 가장 중요하다.
