TiE Silicon Valley is proud to present "The Rising Tide of Mobile Media and Mobile Commerce". Today, an average US household has 5 connected devices and by 2015, this number is expected to grow to 24 devices per household. User Generated Content is also rapidly growing. Gartner predicts that there is currently 329 exabytes of personal data today, which will balloon to 4.1 zettabytes by 2016. Users want to author content (text, picture, audio, video), distribute content, discover content and consume content anytime and from anywhere using mobile devices. As these users enter the enterprise, new challenges are faced by IT managers to secure, manage and distribute content in ways never imagined more.
While mobile content is experiencing rapid growth, mobile commerce is going mainstream. Mobile commerce is expected to cross $25 Billion in sales this year and will account for 25% of US online sales by 2017. It is growing at a faster pace than traditional eCommerce. On one hand, traditional retailers are trying hard to innovate in this space. On the other hand, numerous startups have moved aggressively and introduced innovation that makes discovery and purchase of merchandising simple and enjoyable.
