Authorities in Orange County are warning motorists to be aware of two different types of scams targeting drivers, one of which involves a dangerous crash-and-grab style robbery similar to an incident captured on cameras on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles in late October.

According to officials at California Highway Patrol, thieves staged another crash-and-grab robbery on Nov. 14 at the Beach Boulevard onramp to the northbound 405 Freeway near the Huntington Beach-Westminster border. The staged collision involved two suspect vehicles — a maroon Infiniti SUV and a white Ford Explorer.

KTLA's Mary Beth McDade reports on Nov. 16, 2023.

Just when we all thought it was safe to transport large sums of cash & packages for complete strangers, this happens.

Get paid to trasport money? Yeah, there's a BIG SCAM sign right there.

Love how KTLA issues a “warning”. 99.9% of normal law abiding people will not respond to these ads. If you knowingly get involved in the crime ring, you’re part of the problem

Desperate people turn into suckers. If it sounds sketchy stay away. Criminals always lure you with offers that sound too good to be true.

Life is hard. It's even harder when you're stupid and crooked.

My question is who would fall for this??? In this new world I can hardly believe that anyone would even consider doing this.

This is why I dont ever answer ads on social media nor do I talk to any random strangers who come up to me asking for things. For those who come up to me randomly, I'll just say "Sorry I can't help you" and walk or drive away.

That "Job" offer sounds so shady, one would have to imagine to agree to something like that means they are willing to break the law. Not too much sympathy for crime finding them.

If I was getting paid 6k to transport something you better believe I know I’m doing something shady

If you answer an ad to drive large sums of money (damn well knowing you're not an armored car you're just going to have to chalk that one up to the game.

People never learn that if something sounds too good to be true then avoid it at all cost…especially when it’s to move money. Bozo.

The sad thing is, you can take a train or Uber from LA to Bako for less than $12K. That right there is a 🚩

KTLA i grew up in the 90’s in south central Los Angeles and was active during the Florence and East Coast crip war. What got me through those times was packing. Nothing has changed but the date.

We need to sue governor newsom for letting all these criminals run amuck. Can't even defend yourself without being treated worst than the actual criminals
