Sam Cobb's Amazing Automata Sculptures!

Meet artist Sam Cobb, a sculptor who specializes in making animated statues--automata! Sam joined us at this year's DesignerCon to show off a few of her works and kits, and we chat with her about how she designs and prototypes her elegant hand-cranked models.

I went to a Krampus festival in Austria this weekend just gone.
The outfits and masks in particular are incredible, and the coolest thing is that each participant makes a new mask from scratch every year.

What a great work...it definitely has that classic oldchool feeling...even that devil is like taken straight from old folklore. I love it...and it is interesting to hear about Sam's creative process behind it.

Very cool! I was hoping for a more intricate movement from the Krampus automata, but that's just me. Nice to see people are still doing this sort of "hands-on" stuff.
