is philosophy useless?

After reading and discussing philosophy for a while, we all eventually run into the concerns raised about the usefulness of philosophy. Many say philosophy is useless, and some disagree. In my opinion, there are good points made on both sides of this debate.

Political philosophy, to me, is the most useful as politics impacts a good chunk of our lives. Logic is important too because so much of our world (especially our current world) is based on faulty logic.

I think it's useless in the same way art is useless: doesn't really help "objectively" "improve" things, but it's good to do.

For ethical philosophy, it really can mess you up with outdated, situational information. I'd rather pick a psychology book full of documented research and trials than trust a guy's 100 yrs ago master-slave worldview just because he was too butthurt about his religion.

Two things: one, this was a great, informative video. I got a really good overview of the subject and it has increased my desire to learn more about philosophy. And 2, I love your hoodie! I found it online and may but one. Lol

Philosophy is eminently useless, which is why I love it! Thales certainly found a use for it though, and it made him rich!

Thinking is rarely useless, but philosophy for philosophy sake is good for only two things: basic entertainment and picking up naive college women.
