Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, is the world’s longest-reigning head of state, on the throne since 1967. With a fortune of $18 billion from Brunei’s oil and gas, he rules as an absolute monarch under strict Sharia law.

The Sultan is hosting a grand wedding for his daughter, Princess Azemah, who will marry her cousin. Lavish ceremonies will take place in the Istana Nurul Iman, his palace with 1,788 rooms and 257 gold-adorned bathrooms. The celebrations include traditional rituals and a royal banquet for 2,000 elite guests, who will receive diamond-encrusted gifts.

The event also shines a spotlight on Prince Mateen, the Sultan’s son and one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. Brunei’s mix of immense wealth, strict governance, and enduring traditions make it one of the most fascinating and secretive monarchies globally.

I am from Argentina and just watched this documentary. Knew nothing about this tiny country other than their Sultan is one of the richest man on earth.
Funny that they like our game of polo, polo horses and our argentine red meat barbecue! How come the princess can wear tight riding pants in public and the rest of the women have to wear big tents?
