Yamaha QT50 First Start of the Season

We pull the QT50 moped out of storage for the season. First start with brief overview and history of these bikes.

I had one when I was 16 (1981). Loved it and wish I would have kept it. Mine would do 30 MPH all day long. If wind was at my back I could get it to 34. How do I know I was going 34? I got a ticket on a 25 MPH road! The exhaust would plug up with carbon and had to be cleaned often. Thanks for sharing!

Who did the dual stinger out the muffler? I like!
You know there are big bore kits that will get 45 mph out of these. You need PW50 drive shaft gears, bigger carb. cone air filter, etc. The speedo will point straight down.

Honestly man throw a 65 main jet in it it will run & sound way smoother

So im doing pre mix on the one i picked up so what cable did you use as the junction box and short cable removed now the throttle cable is to short?? Ideas on what you did thanks

Gosh, I really want one of these! There’s one for $400 in my area on Facebook marketplace, but I won’t have the cash until the end of the week. Hope someone doesn’t beat me to it! 😢 the guy selling it rebuilt it

Change the main jet to a 67.5 and it will easily go 30mph. They come with a 70 and run too rich.
