A drone attack targeted the Soltsy-2 airbase in Russia, where Tu-22M3 Backfire swing-wing bombers are stationed. Initial reports were confirmed by images of dark smoke emanating from the base, though the nature of the fire remained uncertain. Recently, pictures have surfaced depicting a Tu-22M3 aircraft ablaze at the base.
These images were shared on Telegram and subsequently circulated across various social media platforms.
Another report suggest that a second one was also damaged, but its not clear.

The facility is situated approximately 115 miles or 185 km to the south of St. Petersburg, 315 miles or about 505 km west of Moscow, and 100 miles or 160 km to the east of NATO-affiliated Estonia. This places it roughly 415 miles or around 670 km north of the Ukrainian border.

In this video, DefenseUpdates analyzes why the crippling attack on Tu-22M3 bomber deep inside Russia is terrible news for President Putin ?

Day 547 of Putin’s disastrous ten-day 'Special Military Operation' against civilians, civilian buildings, churches and grain.

Kiev also has operators in Russia itself for sabotage operations. To locate these bombers .

Now if only this also happens to some of Russia's irreplaceable Tupolev Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers.

Jeez, look at the height of that rudder. Enclosed hangers would have to be enormous, and even netting would require a very high net. Which the drones could fly under.

On the bright side for Russia, Russian pilots didn't defect and land one in Ukraine like what happened with the Mi-8.

Why doesn't the US work quietly alone or with Ukraine to destroy Russian bombers and submarines. Seems to me like the Ukrainians would have no issue with claiming it was them when it could be others. Like the ability to deny these attacks is easier than ever at the moment. I mean be risky if discovered but why not hire mercs to help the Ukrainians devastate strategic Russian assets?

If Ukraine had proper weapons, that base would be smoking crater instead of single asset lost

Ukraine demonstrating that it can reach out and "touch" Russia.

Ok so 360 thermal imaging surveillance of the perimeter out to several kilometers should alert them to these attacks. Obviously has to be AI augmented for best efficiency. Then have microwave energy weapons and antiair shells to shoot the the drones.

If Russia can't handle a drone attack, imagine how they would handle a NATO 200 tomahawk attack. They are the 2nd best military, in Ukraine.

Wouldn't it be funny if Prigozhin was killed because he shut off his transponder and Russian air defense mistook him for a Ukrainian drone headed for Soltsy.

Legit target, unlike apartment buildings in Moscow.
