AI PIANO (Artificial Intelligence Piano)

AI Piano is an improvised piece for two pianos and one pianist. A machine learning model trained on hundreds of classical and jazz songs tries to match the performer's musical phrases and style. The piece evolves as the software responds to the pianist and the pianist responds back to the software. Through this cyclical interaction, the performer learns to navigate the complex musical space of the AI.

AI Piano is a project by Yotam Mann, musician and instrument maker working primarily in code.
It has been developed during Yotam artistic residency in Fano, Italy, at Umanesimo Artificiale from 14 to 24 February 2020 with the contribution of the pianist Mario Mariani, who performed with the AI on the last weekend of the residency. AI Piano is an example of how machine learning can inspire people to be creative in new ways.
