The dog dying first may be a cliche, but the psychotic character smirking at the audience is our indication that he knows it's a cliche. It's like he's poking fun at the audience for eating up the modern, cliched garbage we like.

In the original autrichian Haneke film, when Arno Frish turn his head right into the camera, he blink. This one is great of course, but I miss that effect, it gives me shivers everytime cause it made the audience a little bit more unconfortable, like partner in crime.

So many people miss the point of this movie. The two guys know there in a movie, why they break the 4th wall more then once. Looking into the camera, rewinding time with a remote. Since there in movie with no recourse for there actions they just go around fucking with people.

I like how the first kind of feels like he's looking back like he forgot that we were even there. Like they've been doing this for so long that they forgot that they even had an audience for their games.

I was waiting for the Koolaid man to break out the fourth wall and yell "OH YEAH!"

This whole movie was a commentary on how audiences love movies like this. Love watching violence. You aren't supposed to enjoy the movie. You're supposed to learn something from it. Remove the dramatic plot devices but keep the violence intact, it's unsettling to watch.

I like how they talk like a really fucked up episode of sesame street

I’m sorry but this shot just isn’t as impactful as the 1997 original. The wink is iconic.

Every time (in the 97' version) he breaks the fourth wall, I feel like he's trying to seduce me lol

In my opinion the remake is better. In general everything else is the same with the exception of the actors. The talent in the remake is far superior to the original. The duo of Brady Corbet and Michael Pitt is just too perfect for this film

How is it not as good as the original? It is a shot by shot re-make.

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a handsome blonde boy kill a dog I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

When he says, you’re on their side—I think he’s talking to Georgie, the son. I guess it could be to Georgie AND us, the audience.

Brilliant film and you won't understand or appreciate it from a horror, suspense, and thriller fan's context because many are too soaked into emotion. Not creativity and the level of uniqueness when it comes to story crafting. This film isn't the typical genre film where you root for the characters at the expense to the supposed villains. And hope and pray that they get away. Because they aren't, this film focuses on reality. And in reality people don't prevail, escape, or live happily ever after in home invasion with intruders. They show up on the front pages to our newspapers or internet headlines as helpless victims to the tyranny of the unknown psychopathic killers whim and decisions.

This movie was right. I'm all for disturbing and frightening content, but add something way too sadistic and/or over-the-top like Saw or Terrifier, and you might not really feel so good afterwards. (You can still watch it though; I can't stop you. It's just a warning.)
