I am a UNC alum, too. The players hardly taunted--pretty good natured and tame until the projectiles came. (You recall the "Can J.R. Reid" signs? Same crowd, different year.) The Crazies are a special target for every visiting team. The Crazies eat it up and love the attention the players give.
