What Were All The Tier 0 Decks In YGO's History?

Показать описание
In order to be a tier 0 deck, a deck has to have had at least 65% of top spots at a sanctioned event.
-In 2004 Chaos emperor dragon came out, allowing yata lock decks that would hand rip and stop your opponent from playing. It was so bad they had to ban cards for the first time.
-In 2008 Dark Armed Dragon came out, creating Tele-DaD synchro decks that ravaged the meta for years.
-In 2013 we had Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks, 2 decks that came out at the same time which were so powerful they required multiple hits to keep them in check, with some of their cards only coming off the ban list as recent as 2022.
-In 2015 we had Nekroz at the beginning of the year, and PePe towards the end, both only being tier 0 for a very short time.
-In 2017 we had 2 more with Zoodiacs at the start of the year, and SPYRAL's towards the end after the release of SPYRAL Double Helix. With Zoodiacs going on to be one of the most successful archetypes in the games history.
-Then in 2022 we had 2 more again, with Spright at the start of the year, but only in the OCG, and Izshizu Tear towards the end.

Still hilarious to this day that to neuter D-rulers, they had to ban the babies, limit the rulers, then just went fuck it and banned all of them while spellbooks immediately went from near-tier 0 to completely irrelevant with just one card banned

Just one tier 0 more and we will have our top 10!

There is something deeply amusing about dragon rulers and spell books prevented each other from being tier 0

The first True Tier 0 deck was Exodia OCG 1999.

This is with pre-pre errata Sangan and Witch, Last Will having bad rulings at the time, and Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity being at 3.

Nothing will be a harder title in Yugioh other than "I'm the reason the ban list exists.".

We now have a Tier 0 deck for every special summon mechanic:
Chaos, DAD-Return: Standard Special Summon
TeleDAD: Synchro
Nekroz: Ritual
PePe: Pendulum (which also starts with "Pe" lol)
Zoodiac: Xyz
SPYRAL: Link
Ishizu-Tearlaments: Fusion

I went to a YCS when Zoodiac was at it’s peak. There were signs posted that essentially told players not to be angry if they only faced other Zoo players. I was running Magespecters and after losing immediately to two Zoo decks, I had a really fun time at the “non Zoo” table with everyone who played fun and fair decks.

I appreciate you updated your list to include nekroz after you found out there was offical data for it topping from the one youtuber who had compiled teir 0 data.

Dad was out before psychics. So it was “psychics came out, for tele dad”.

Im soo glad you made the distinction that dragon rulers wasn’t tier 0. Nubs always say it was but they forget spell books were 50/50 match up and every event was 50/50. Was a fun time to have to op decks. If they came out seperate formats both would have been tier 0.

Remember a few months ago when tear was considered a high roll deck that needed pretty good luck to out God I miss those days.

Its crazy that Kashtira got whats basically a custom card with Arise-Heart, and they still cant break through Tearlaments in terms of representation (even after a nerf to the deck) in the OCG.

I love how everybody admits that if Dragon Rulers and Spellbook of Judgement would have been Tier 0 if they didn't exist at full power at the same time.

And now in 2024 we have the snake eye decks 😂

You missed quite a few.

1999: Exodia (OCG-Only, with pre-errata Sangan and Witch)
2007: Airblade Turbo (only for 1 event before Stratos got hit to 1, similar to Nekroz)
2008 pre-LODT: DAD Return and Ohm FTK (both Tier 0.5 decks similar to Dragon Ruler and Spellbook)
2008 post-LODT: Gladiator Beast
2011: Six Samurai (for 1 event before Gateway got hit to 1, similar to Airblade and Nekroz)
2018: First Plant Link, then ABC (both OCG-only, powered by the Halq/Summon Sorc/Pre-Errata Firewall Link Trinity)

If you're including OCG Exclusive Tier 0 formats then you missed Dragon Rulers, which were Tier 0 in the OCG exclusively. There was also a Tier 0 Zombie format in the OCG shortly after TeleDAD. Then there's the OCG's 2nd ever format, which was a tier 0 exodia format.

To clarify what exactly is a tier 0 format, the definition of tier 0 is that you need 65% or more top seats at a major event. Why? Anyone can bring anything to a YCS but top cut means the decks are succeeding and 65% being roughly 2/3 of decks being played. That means on average u r TWICE as likely to play against that deck compared to EVERY other deck in that format COMBINED.

Decks include:
- Chaos (CED + Yata)
- TeleDAD
- Nekroz
- Pepe
- Zoodiac
- Spyral
- Tearlament
