FYI, French Guiana was why Sir Walter Raleigh was beheaded. He wasn't supposed to go into French Guiana but his protectress died and the new king had him executed after imprisoning in the Tower of London for 10 years.

There's no history of them hating the British or the English language. They're simply a very insular territory. Direct flights are mainly to France, Martinique and Guadeloupe; the people who settle here either know or pick up French, and they also have Creole. That's literally all they need. Also, the reason so many people haven't heard of it is because the bulk of their tourists come from French-speaking countries. That includes Haiti
