Homeowner AMAZED After I Mowed & Edged Her OVERGROWN Lawn

An overgrown lawn can be a challenge to mow & edge. This overgrown lawn was on average over 6 inches tall, and has never been professionally serviced. Mowing this lawn was quite the challenge!

Lawn edges/grass was soaking wet, thus made it harder to perfect the edge. After we completed the service, the homeowner texted my wife and said she was shocked and amazed at how good it looked. She never has seen her yard look so perfect!

Here's the breakdown:

Today you will be seeing me take care of a police officers overgrown lawn. She told me that the grass hasn't been mowed in a while in the backyard, but the front yard has been somewhat maintained and up kept. The edges have never been fully established using a bladed edger.

I started out by trimming with my Stihl FS90 grass trimmer. I went around every perimeter of the lawn, fence, and garden bed. I did this first to make edging grass less of a hassle. We ran into a problem with her trampoline (it started to come apart when I attempted to move it) so we had to put it back into it's place.

I then proceeded with edging the whole front and backyard of the property. I somehow missed a small section in her front yard which I had to later return and finish edging. I think the property line through me off or had something to do with it. Can't remember now...

After edging, we always rake up the debri/edging sod chunks. We DO NOT blow them back into the grass to be "mowed" over because that is not how it's done by a professional. If you attempt to mow up the sod chunks/dirt, you'll be there for awhile. We also blew away the dirt on the sidewalks and driveway prior to starting our mow.

For our mowing portion of this service, we used our Toro Turfmaster HDX 30" commercial lawn mower. We did not mulch/side discharge initially because the mower handled the tall grass like a champ first try around. We bagged all the grass clippings and made a few double passes along the way.

Fill, I just want you to know that you inspired me. I have elderly neighbors that hadn't had their lawn mowed yet, and the grass was 5 feet tall in places. I checked on them, and it turned out that the person who had been mowing for them never showed up this season. I initially thought I could mow for them, but it turned out to be too much for me (I'm a senior citizen and can just manage my own lawn). I found a young man just starting out his business who could take on the job. Thanks to him, years of poor mowing (a couple of feet of packed down dry grass) have been corrected, saving this nice couple from a city citation and maybe even saving their lives, as it gets very dry here all summer and all that tinder could easily ignite from a cigarette carelessly discarded.
