This is the Cheapest 150mph Car! + Saab 9-5 Aero Issues

My Saab 9-5 Aero is the cheapest car you can buy that can do over 150mph! Forget your Mercedes, BMWs and Audis. If you want a quick car on a budget, Saab should be on your list.

Having said that, this car isn’t without its faults. In this video I run you through some things that aren’t quite right with my car, as well as some of the more negative driving impressions.

Thanks for watching please remember to like and subscribe!

It's normal that she's heavy. Look at the quality and thickness of the steel they used! It's the build quality that makes her heavy rather than the useless gadgets fitted to all those crappy SUV's and euroboxes.

The SAAB 9-5 was designed to cruise in comfort at 120 mph on the Autobahn. It's not a true sports car although the 2002 9-5 Aero could keep up with most sports cars of the same year 0-60 mph. It's built for comfort cruising at 120 mph, and in that task SAAB engineers did an amazing job. Cheers.

-Built very well
-Very safe and robust in case of a crash
-Solid engine that goes on forever
-Extremely nice interior with great, simple gadgets
-Quick despite it's weight
-Basically a landbourne jet fighter
Literally the best car on the second hand market. Cost's peanuts. Only issues are running costs like tax.

These cars age so well, they still look modern, so way ahead of there time.

you CANT really call replacement tires and brakes as are "consumables, not repair`s " talking about "over engineering" why does nobody point out the THIRD front windscreen washer, 2 aint enuff for saab

Saab was really ahead of its time. Other car brands in that time could only deliver the same performance with more cilinders and most of the time did not make use of turbo's.

There is only around an actual 60-70kg compared to the saloon if you look it up on WIS. The Saloon could be specced up to nearly 1.7 tonne as well. My 04 Aero Estate is around the 1.6 Tonne area and is pretty much basic spec for an Aero. The heavy cars will be the V6 with all trimmings. AS3 audio, slide out rear shelf etc. We take ours to the lake district camping and you can fill the boot with enough stuff for a big family with 5 people in the passenger compartment relaxing. These cars need to be run on 98/99 octane. The ECU is very advanced for its time (Saab's own in house design) and can change performance depending on fuel. You certainly notice the difference.

5:50 the rear disc and drum brake setup is actually from General Motors. That was handy when my handbrake return spring broke as I was able to get another from the local Vauxhall dealer.

You've got a cracking example there. I'm from not too far down the road but now live in Australia. I have a late 2001-built MY00 Aero SportCombi with manual trans, it's such a good car!

I don't trust used B235's after a few bad experiences of poorly maintained motors, and this one was too good to risk – I did a full rebuild with forged pistons, huge suspension overhaul, subframe and other bushes, mounts etc – it just needs a few performance bits and a tune to make it really fly! It has 142, 000km or just under 90, 000 miles – how lucky was I? I only know of a couple of manual Aero wagons (estates) over here.

I should however say that the work I did was about 10x what I paid for the car.. and that was doing it myself!

You are blessed in the UK with lots of cars + spares, lots of performance part suppliers, and lots of other Saabisti building cars. Enjoy!

I just did a 1200 kilometer road trip with an identical car on E85 fuel and it averaged 28 MPG (note: ethanol naturally increases the MPG by 30%). Couldn't have had a more comfy car than this!

Right you convinced me I was toying with the idea but now I definitely want one :D

I have a 95 Vector est with the old 2.2TiD. It has parking sensors lol. On a run it'll return 45 mpg+. Mid range pull is decent enough to get past slower traffic on dual carriageways. Only car I owned that was close to meeting it for comfort was an old Volvo 740 est

i have always described my 9-5 estate as a battleship and turning it can take weeks to acheive especially in tights car parks

owned loads of 'proper' Saabs in the past which were great, (apart from chocolate turbo gearboxes.) never entertained the GM models though...though a 95 may be an option at some point - much better built than the 93.

Saab aero 0-60 mph = 6.5 seconds. That's faster than most so called sports cars. Early aero' were rated at 225 Bhp but the experts I spoke to say that was a minimum and that most were well in excess. Later versions were rated at 265 Bhp! .

I've had my 2.0 L Silver 54 plate saab 9-5 estate vector since 2005, it's done 60k and in showroom condition. It's never let me down and you can still smell the leather, thing is I went online to check out ' we buy any car' and got a quote of £315 for my car 🙄. I've just replaced the 4 tyres ( after 6 years) at a cost of £450 😂. Can't recommend the saab highly enough 👏

My 2002 SAAB 9-5 had similar sounding problems with suspension knocking and xenon light leveling problems. The suspension noise was fixed with polyurethane bushings on the rearward mounts of the front subframe and new lower control arm bushings. I used Powerflex purple (street) bushings. The headlight level system needed new gravity sensor links in front and rear suspension.
