Kevin, thank you very much for what you are doing/sharing. I'm 76 and since my recent retirement, I made it my goal to learn as much about the guitar and playing guitar as I am able. You are wise beyond your years, and really have a great and understandable way of explaining things. I also appreciate your honesty/understanding, and when you caution that some things will take years if not a lifetime to master. I've been practicing the pentatonic scale and really did not understand its significance until just now. When I was a teenager I bought a cheap (almost unplayable) folk guitar and learned to bang out cowboy chords, but never progressed past that. In retirement I decided to take the time and learn more about the instrument. By chance I found your channel, and you have opened doors for me. Thank you so much!

Hey! If you guys are confused on sharps and flats (the hashtag and b looking thing) here's some further clarification if you're interested! The modern scale is composed of these things called half-steps. They are the smallest distance a note can move in pitch. If you think about the piano, most of these would be your black keys. On a piano, if you look between the keys of C and D, you have a black key in the middle of them. This is note is C sharp/D flat. The sharp raises the note a half step and the flat lowers the note a half step. Thank you Kevin for the guitar lesson! I just wanted to bring a bit more of theory into this because learning these scales has A LOT to do with key signatures and sharps and flats!

Life hack for # and b: it’s just half steps between the notes. Half a step above and half a step below. It’s the middle. Which means # and b can be the same note. A# and Bb is the same note, because # means halfway up and b means halfway down. Use a piano to see it visually. The black keys are the # and b. Notice that there is no Fb, Cb, B# or E#, because the Fb is just the note E. There are no whole steps between B and C or E and F - only half a step. Starting from the note C the step pattern is 1-1-½-1-1-1-½

Been playing for 2 years and this video just now showed me how to figure the notes out on the neck. Well done and kudos on the great lesson.

I sincerely think this channel is underrated. I'm a big fan of free content, since I also love free and open source software. This channel is the first guitar channel to my knowledge that provides a roadmap in such a way that it can easily be picked up instead of a paywall. Thank you, Kevin for not only making music more accessible, but also for your content because I think it's quite entertaining also!
