#july2022 #istanbulcity #istanbulvlog The Galata Bridge (Galata Köprüsü) is one of Istanbul’s most famous bridges, that spans the Golden Horn. Galata Bridge is also one of the oldest bridges in the world.

The first known bridge over the Golden Horn Bay was built during the reign of Emperor Justinian, the bridge was located in the area of Theodosius Walls.

During the capture of Constantinople in 1453, in order to transfer troops from one side of the bay to the other, the Turks assembled a floating bridge, placing their ships close to each other.

In 1502-1503, during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II, projects of bridges across the bay were considered, one of the projects was developed by Leonardo da Vinci. The project provided for the construction of a bridge with a length of 240 m and a width of 24 m, which at that time was grandiose. Another project was developed by Michelangelo. But the projects were not destined to become reality.

At the beginning of the XIX century, during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II, in 1836 a pontoon bridge with a length of about 500-540 m was built across the bay, it was located west of the modern Galata Bridge.

The Galata Bridge is a bridge that spans the Golden Horn in Istanbul, Turkey. It was named after Galata, the former name of the modern quarter of Karakoy in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, located at the northern shore of the Golden Horn.

Golden Bridge was made of wood, but it was restored and renewed repeatedly until another parallel bridge was built in 1987. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the Galata Bridge, so some undamaged wooden boards were moved to land. It is a destination for sea lovers for meditating on the natural beauty of the sea. It is called the awake bridge as lights keep shining associated with sea fans’ traffic.

The Galata Bridge has two levels, the first one houses restaurants. Our advice to you is to carefully read the prices and remember the menu. As soon as you take a step to transition, active employees in all languages of the world will invite you to visit their restaurant and promise discounts. Prices in some restaurants are very high, so be careful.

There is a wide variety of fish restaurants under the Galata bridge with sea views on both sides. Restaurants have menus for all kinds of fish. The most attractive thing is boats and ships spreading in the region, where visitors prefer to eat fish.

Galata Bridge at night is one of the most favorable places for tourism and enjoyment lovers in Istanbul, where visitors enjoy watching the calm sea and bridge’s charming lights, as well as enjoying the music coming from nearby areas.

How to get Galata Bridge

The Galata Bridge is located on Beyoglu, linking Eminonu and Karakoy. You can get to Galata Bridge from Taksim by Metro M2, then walking for 15 minutes. Or you can take buses 35C, 36T, and 55T.
