I Tried To Get Top 1% On The OLD Boat Race!

Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today I am trying to build the fastest boat I can for the old boat race on Race Island. This race has been around a while so the leaderboard is much more established and competitive. Will I be able to make it to the top 1%?

About Trailmakers:

In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.

Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!

Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.

Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.

Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.

Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.

Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

19:35 you're too worried about top speed. Yes, adding on the tail rudder dropped your top speed to <700, but you weren't even hitting 450 during the run. Acceleration needs to be top priority in these races

Video idea: Transformation dogfight.

Create 4 planes to be put in your transformation hotbar. You can choose at any time to transform to your next plane, but once you reach your 4th plane you can no longer transform and lose the fight if shot down. Each plane is larger and has more power cores for weapons, thrust, and control.

Something like this:
1: 30 blocks, 4 power cores
2: 60 blocks, 8 power cores
3: 120 blocks, 16 power cores
4: 240 blocks, 32 power cores

Perhapskis. Just wanted to say it one more time before it went the way of Delayed Annihilation... love these 1% challenges btw

3:35 (also visible at 13:14 aswell as 14:02) I am placed at the 6th place if you've noticed, and my friend "Alc Problem" is placed 4th xd, great video so faar. And btw. we both done it with only 16 cores

Is it the seat that can start a race?
Sort of suspecting number 1 extended their build with a detatachable block.

tbh scrapman should go through all the previous races and supersonic attempts and compile it into a series or like a really long video

hope you see this comment scrap man a big fan for like many years ok thank you bye

You should try to do the races with 5 power cores, it's very limiting but fun and makes you consider every core you use!

Technically your top 5 because one of them is flying and the other one is glitching ahead

You should try to get top 1% in all the races in the game. These episodes are super fun to watch and see how you optimize your vehicles and skills!

To have super controlled turning, you could experiment with a compass on a servo controlling your turning gyros. Turning the compass one way would twist you the other way and keep you straight when you don't turn it.

14:34 I don't understand how Ryson (1st place) can start at the next checkpoint...
Also, I really enjoy these as well as your breaking sound barrier videos!
What sometimes annoys me though is your belief that speed is the key to everything.
It's quite clear especially with these water races that it is not speed you are lacking, but acceleration + maneuverability.
You aren't even reaching your top speed anywhere throughout the race so why would you be worried, about lowering it?

hi scrapman, i have a suggestion that can perhapskis improve your creation. the creation you have now which is four blocks wide and 3 blocks tall which should have an area of 12, however, since it has more of an irregular shape than a rectangle, I'm going to split it into two, with the bottom part being a 4x2 which gives us an area of 8 and the top part being a 1x2 with an area of 2. Adding those two together gives us an area of 10. I suggest that you should rotate your out board boat engines and pontoons from lying horizontally to lying vertically, doing this gives us a width of 2 blocks ( visually it would look like 2 blocks since flat connectors are flat and don't have any aerodynamics) and a height of 4 blocks which gives us an area of 8, thus reducing your aerodynamic profile by 2.i get that the creation might want to tip upwards but i think the gyros would stop it from doing that. Anyway that's all i have to say, i love your content i think that your an amazing guy and i hope u see this comment and make a video on it too since it'd be pretty interesting to test out😁. thanks!

10:15 Perhapskis you were trying to say
"The difference between myself and first place is slightly less than that of half my time", or rather "I need to beat the race almost twice as fast as I did"

perhapskis you could move the seat to the back, so that when you turn the back swings out and brings the seat with it and that can hit the checkpoint even if the front cuts the corner

I would love to see a bionic league run.
Also I second the other comments, a vertical rudder that does not turn in the center may counterintuitively massively increase your turning. You'd effectively be adding a vertical wing in the center of gravity of your craft, allowing it to loose a lot less speed in sharp turns. The more energy you can retain turning, the less energy you need in engines to put back in after the turn.

25:08 That arc across half of the island shows you how fast these "boats" are actually going. 500mph = 800km/h. That's closer to the real world land speed record than the one on water.

Possible idea for helping go straight when ya aren't turning: Perhapskis ya can mount a Vertical Stabilizer like a Tailfin on the very back on a Hinge set to 90 degrees and controlled by a Logic Block so it's up by default but when A or D is being held down to turn the Fin is flipped 90 degrees backward to point behind the Boat instead so the Tailfin is folded outta the way of the Turning Aerodynamics. When folded behind the Boat it should fit into a slit that prevents the Tailfin from being an Aerodynamics Contributor till ya are going straight again so it unfolds back out to be deployed only during straight travel to fight boat attempts to wiggle around like a Snake while ya are needing a straight trajectory. Crazy like a Fox, or just crazy?

I love all the extra effort the editor likes to go into to make the statistics stuff more comprehensible. Whoever you are, you're doing a great job!
