Honestly the only movie I was looking forward to watch of this year

I swear, Del Toro produces the embodiment of everything I love in horror, folklore and storytelling. Almost everything he’s made has had a direct connection to me on some primal level.
Wendigos in particular have been one of my favorite folklore and horror concepts ever since I was 12, when I pulled Rick Yancy’s “Curse of the Wendigo” off my school library’s shelf.
Hell, even when Del Toro did “Scary Stories”, I remembered passing around “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” between classmates in my small-town Pennsylvanian school, where we used to fight for the chance to have the book.
Instances from my childhood, such as these, are massive reasons for why I have such an intimate relationship with horror and folklore and Del Toro making movies about these concepts and subjects makes it feel like he’s reaching directly into my inner-child for material.
