Your lawyer tells you that there's a pretrial settlement conference on your case coming up. You tell him you want to be there. He says "Ok." But his understanding of you wanting to be there is different than your understanding.

You wan to express your outrage that the defense is not willing to negotiate.
You think that by impressing the judge with your verbal argument skills that he will somehow favor you and lean in your favor when your case goes to trial.
There's a problem with that thinking.
That's because your understanding of what happens during a pretrial conference is not what happens in real life in court.
You can come to court and sit in the courtroom when your case is called. You can wait for your attorney to come back out of the judge's chambers to let you know what just happened in there.
In all likelihood, the judge will not be willing to speak with you...that's what you have an attorney for; to speak on your behalf.
