I just came across this interview now, even though I am a huge fan of Jenna's. This interview is brilliant and she is a true inspiration for someone, who has just started his own YouTube channel and is about to self-publish his debut fantasy novella (The Sultan's Daughter) 😎

Did not know that Jenna had a job in financing. That's exactly where I am right now. This was also a very insightful interview. Thank you both for sharing!

I am from the Philippines a developing country and the land of non-readers. Those who actually read are rare breeds. It is aggravated by the fact that I am a resident of the Cordillera Region. Those active in the "ARTS" such as singers, composers, painters, sculptors, writers, actors, musicians and the like are always struggling on showcasing their works and in terms of their economic status. People are not taking them seriously or they consider the path that these artists chose as hobbies not serious careers. Everybody here are more focused on what they consider real jobs with real salaries to provide for their families and for their own basic needs. I am not the excellence in writing nor have the great command with regards to the English language but I have written two manuscripts which I self edited five times each. I am on the process of letting my first manuscript be edited, proofread or searching for anybody to be my beta readers whichever the case but I did not find any qualified book editors in my opinion or any body willing to read my work. I ended up with a retired government official who is currently editing my work. It is already more than three months and yet she is not done with the editing. According to her, the editing process is taking so long because my manuscript is so lengthy. The actual number of words of my writing is 85652 which in my opinion is still short for an amateur writer like me because of the possibility of cutting scenes or words that are not necessary to the main plot. I has been a struggle. No knowledgeable book editors, limited support, limited finances, limited platform and the possibility of narrow chance of publication. I don't know the significance of this comment of mine or if there is a possibility to get some advice or help from anybody who will take time to read but it is my writing reality.

Jenna is such an inspiration!

There are authors who can "pump out" high quality books in a short space of time, though. It will take experience and being able to write a lot but some authors have been very successful with it. This is something Chris Fox talks about and mentions some highly prolific authors who did it.

Enjoy Jenna's channel. I'm envious that she can write full-time. I have a cubicle job. Looking forward to retirement. I'm the indie author of It Could Happen Here.

Self publishing cost me nothing but time and effort.

KDP (amazon) charges 2.95 to print and distribute and then you get to keep 60 to 70% of whatever your book price is after that.

In my case, i have a poetry book listed for 8.99 and get to keep 3.15 each sale.

The only thing i find pricey beyond that (should you choose that route) is the advertising campaign.

Editing the book and hiring an editor are not the same. I thought they were.

An editor reviews your work and decides whether it should be published or not. They also oversee the whole publication process.

FYI They can also have you remove portions of a book that you might think are important or that you like.

On top of that I have read reviews where editors say they charged a high flat rate and royalties on top.

So hiring an editor is not just about going over and correcting your mistakes
