I saved so many houses until a time came when i found the perfect one that i could afford. Took about 6 years to have enough of a down payment for a decent home and my husband passing away for me to go through with the purchase confidently. This is so true and it is depressing when you really think about it. One has to win the lottery, do crime or die for most of us to potentially come across enough money to leave something tangible behind for out families (usually after the person having worked themselves to the bone til death). Earth sucks. I'd rather be poor and have my husband back. We sacrified, scrounged and worked to get out of it once, I have no doubt we could do it again.

I feel very fortunate for what I have. My husband and I bought a newer home in 2019 for $158, 000. Our mortgage rate is 2.5%. It’s now worth $263, 000 and I’m absolutely shocked. We could NOT afford that today, especially with a 7% rate. We live in Alabama and while the cost of living isn’t the worst, it’s still not easy. It saddens me to know that other millennials will never be able to afford a home. I have friends who look at Zillow and dream of owning a home, but also know they may never get that.
