Part 1/3: This video describes the complete procedure for removing factory speakers in an E46 3 Series Sedan or Wagon years '98-05 and replacing them with BSW's STAGE I factory speaker upgrade kit. This kit is very simple to install and perfectly replaces the factory speakers with better sounding, superior quality BSW drivers. Perfect fit and impedance. The guide covers all speaker locations found in the Harman Kardon (HK) and Business CD (standard) systems.

The speakers are custom impedance three prong 6.5" speakers. Our Stage I kit is a perfect plug-n-play replacement. Your other option is to use 5.25" speakers on custom fabricated adapter plates, bypass the factory amplifier and use an aftermarket head unit. For most people the Stage I is a better option for upgrading : )

This is what makes german cars solid. Nothing is easy. But so easy! Remember people these are older cars. Take your time! Never power tools. Remember if you dont talk to your car, your not in touch with your german automobile!!

@sbn378 Depending on your E46 there are custom-designed 3/4 tweeters, 2.5" midranges, and 6.5" midbasses. No aftermarket speakers will fit. If you go to BAVSOUND DOT COM and select your exact vehicle you can get more information. Thanks.

They are custom-designed 3-prong-mount 6.5" drivers that we have engineered replacements for. Check out bavsound dot com. . . If you replace them yourself you'll need to use a custom mounting plate and 5.25" drivers.

I’ll say tight. E36 have the worst door panels ever made. Everyone that comes in the shop they are falling off because they fall apart and if you don’t re epoxy them asap they break and then it’s screwed. Such a much better built car. The old ones stay together. I got your stage 1 for my M3. Sounds a lot better. Thanks for a great and easy

What size speakers are the mid range front? 2.5? I’m having a hard time finding anything aftermarket to replace the 2.5 Mids. Any suggestions? I’m talking about front door panels and rear. They have different casings to sit in door but speaker is same.

Please help me! The first small plastic clip you pulled off (on the handle) on the left door has a side mirror moving function, how do i take it off and get to that bolt under it?? I cant figure that out...i got all the bolts out except that one and i cant get the door off coz of it! plz help!

and for the speakers i have 2 pair of BOSTON components SL60 for the front and rare and vat should i do about the speaker below the seat. i belive the stock is 6 inch speaker below both the seat ..

I bought an aftermarket amp (trunk) and Im using 14 (maybe 16) gauge wire from the amp and tapped it to the original (18, maybe 20 gauge?) wire that goes from the underseat sub to the speaker door (new ones too) as ill save myself all the wire run process to the door. Is there ANY problem with doing this? I ask because whenever I play too loud it starts smelling funny and Im not sure if its just the "new speaker smell" or if theres something heating up (the thinner wire). I already made sure my speakers could handle the amp.
