LYRICS
Reckless Love | Written by Cory Asbury, Caleb Culver, and Ran Jackson

Verse 1
Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me

Chorus
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Verse 2
When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me
You have been so, so kind to me

Bridge
There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me

Glad to see Rebecca singing and leading worship. She was one of my dads students back in the 90's at Christ For The Nations. He really believed in her gift, and she's using it in full swing here.

So this is where we’re at as Christian’s now eh? Calling God reckless? I know any Christian who likes this song doesn’t want to hear this. But I am Christian who holds nothing back. So. But anyway here’s the deal, no matter how well you mean, it’s blasphemy putting God in that category. “Oh but you’re not understanding. We’re saying he’s beyond reckless”. Well if he is then why put him in that sick category to begin with? He’s not some drunk driver. He’s God. “Oh let’s call God reckless without actually calling him reckless”. Ok well if we’re gonna go that far. How about this, how about we write a song called hot love. “Hey let’s call God hot without actually calling him hot”. What would the excuse be for that one? “Oh well that’s not what we meant. We just meant he makes us feel warm and complete”. I mean think about it people. Many Christian’s today are misled today because there not filled with the Holy Ghost. Nor do they truly study the word of God. All we hear of today in these misleading unbiblical worship songs is Jesus being put in sick categories, you hear the name of Jesus less, you don’t hear the cross, salvation, or repentance. In fact lyrically they just sound like love songs by air supply for in love couples. It’s only the feel good things. It’s become politically correct. Yes we are called to preach his love and the positivity. But why not all else? “Oh well we just don’t feel led to be preaching that”. Well any of em who say that are misled because the Bible says “For I have shunned not to preach on the whole counsel of Gods word” Which is acts 20:27. So Gods not going to calls us to only preach some of his word but all of it. It would be like pastoring a church and saying “I feel led to preach. But I just think I should tell the story of Moses each Sunday and midweek”. Some christian musicians might also say, “Well we’re not preachers, we’re a band”. Blah blah blah. Sure you are, your publicly preaching to the world but through music. So it is preaching. And you need to preach everything biblically. Not by how we want to preach. Anyway we as Christians have let ourselves get deceived so much that we will just believe anyone who claims to be either they are a Christian or a Christian music artist and say “oh praise the Lord”. Well demons come in the form of believers too. As they word says in the last days there will be false prophets and teachers. Bottom line Cory asbury and any misled Christian’s out there who support him blaspheming God, covering it or playing it in the churches. You need to Repent. You Cory and all other believers know better then this. And if you still think it’s ok. I suggest truly studying Gods word. And I mean really study it in context. Study throughly, don’t just know what it says. The Bible says “Study to show thyself approved unto God. A workman that needeth not to be ashamed. Rightly deviding the word of truth”. 2nd Timothy 2:15.

*GOD's LOVE is NOT Reckless.*

*"Reckless love"* is a very erroneous representation of the love of GOD.

Some of the meanings of the word reckless are:  carefree, careless, foolhardy, rash, hasty, ill-advised, imprudent, negligent, thoughtless, breakneck, daredevil, desperate, devil-may-care, fast and loose, feckless, harebrained, headlong, heedless, helter-skelter, hopeless, hotheaded, inattentive, incautious, inconsiderate, indiscreet, kooky, mindless, playing with fire, brash, uncareful, unwise.

*GOD IS LOVE* 1 John 4:8b Love is an attribute of GOD. Love is a core aspect of GOD’s character, HIS Person.

God’s love is in no sense in conflict with any of HIS other attributes / character.

There is not a single verse in the Bible where GOD is described in any of the above meanings of the word reckless, because it is not compatible to the character of GOD.

Let us see 2 examples:

1) Recklessness implies an inability to see the future, but GOD knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10).

2) GOD takes no risks because a GOD who is all-powerful and all-knowing by nature cannot take risks. GOD’s salvation plan was never risky or reckless, and all throughout the gospels, Jesus explains that he knows exactly how he is going to be received by the world and what will happen to him (John 10:25-28).

We could substitute another word for reckless eg. "great", "wonderful", "awesome" etc...

Songs have great power to influence our thought and our beliefs. All of us are vulnerable and emotional during worship, we must be careful about the lyrics that is presented especially to our children. If a particular lyric is promoting an anti-biblical understanding of GOD’s character, as “reckless love” clearly is, then it needs to be corrected. Just because a song is popular doesn't make it right.

As worshippers, we have to ask ourselves: do the words coming out of my mouth, which are supposed to guide us in worshipping GOD for who HE really is, accurately reflect God’s character? If they don’t, then how can we be worshipping in “SPIRIT and TRUTH” (John 4:24)?
